Navy Peacoat (1 Item – 3 Looks)
The Peacoat was first issued by the United States Navy during the early 20th Century. The coat’s design was borrowed from Britain’s Royal Navy Reefer Jacket. The Royal Navy first designed the jacket specifically for crewmen who had to climb rigging and furl and unfurl, or ‘reef’, the sails of the ships. The jacket was made short enough to allow for easy movement through the rigging. It also had a double-breasted front, which prevented the buttons from getting caught on ropes. It was made of a very heavy wool, in dark Navy blue. More recently, the Peacoat’s style has been adapted in virtually every color becoming a fashionable yet versatile piece for colder weather.
No matter if you have a Peacoat already in your closet or are considering one as the winter season draws, you can check out some great getups from Famous Outfits that take 1 item, but give you 3 looks.
