The Proposal: Outfit Breakdown

A couple of weeks ago, I went to lake Tahoe to go snowboarding and to propose to my girlfriend. I thought it would be a fun post to show a few pictures from the surprise engagement and also to break down the outfit that I wore, Famous Outfits style.

I really wanted to make it a surprise for my girlfriend Melissa, so I planned everything out and was as secretive as possible. She thought it would just be a snowboarding trip for her birthday but she had no idea that I was planning to propose to her. There were a few moments where I thought I must have given it away, but I guess she was oblivious to it all. All the hard work and planning to make this engagement special was well worth it. She said YES!

Denim Jacket (1 Item – 3 Looks)

The denim jacket made its original debut as a practical worker’s coat around the turn of the century by Levi Strauss and Co. However, the first edition was orignally labled the “Levi Blouse” and functioned more as a heavy shirt than a jacket. In 1938, Levi’s renamed the “blouse” to “jacket.” During the 1950’s, the denim jacket saw a shift from popular workwear to everyday attire. Since then, actors like James Dean and Robert Redford helped to popularize the denim jacket even more through the years. Over a hundred years later, the denim jacket remains a wardrobe staple versatile enough to pair with looks from casual to dressy and everything in between.

Navy Peacoat (1 Item – 3 Looks)

The Peacoat was first issued by the United States Navy during the early 20th Century. The coat’s design was borrowed from Britain’s Royal Navy Reefer Jacket. The Royal Navy first designed the jacket specifically for crewmen who had to climb rigging and furl and unfurl, or ‘reef’, the sails of the ships. The jacket was made short enough to allow for easy movement through the rigging. It also had a double-breasted front, which prevented the buttons from getting caught on ropes. It was made of a very heavy wool, in dark Navy blue. More recently, the Peacoat’s style has been adapted in virtually every color becoming a fashionable yet versatile piece for colder weather.
